Baystate Hospital of the Future
Situation
When Baystate Medical Center was building its state-of-the-art expansion, known as “the Hospital of the Future,” it needed communications systems that were up to the challenge, with a focus on security and reliability.
Solution
Collins Electric handled the voice, data, security, distributed antenna system, paging system and Wi-Fi installations for the upfit of the existing shell space at the Hospital of the Future.

Belchertown Public Schools
Situation
Under its banner of “tradition and innovation—together,” Belchertown Public Schools launched a project to improve school security.
Solution
Collins Electric installed cloud-based access control and security video surveillance systems across all public schools in Belchertown. The project included new access control, door sensors and comprehensive security coverage.
Results
All Belchertown public schools now employ modern, effective security systems.

Hampden County Sheriff’s Department
Situation
The Hampden County Sheriff’s Department needed to upgrade the security systems at its two correctional centers.
Solution
Collins Electric replaced the physical access control, guard tour, video surveillance, and perimeter intrusion detection systems at two facilities: the Western Massachusetts Regional Women’s Correctional Center in Chicopee and the seven-building Hampden County Correctional Center in Ludlow.
Results
This comprehensive security upgrade enhanced safety and operational efficiency across both jails.

Situation
HG&E offers reliable, affordable and scalable, internet, voice and data solutions using fiber optic connections to Holyoke businesses.

South Hadley Electric Light (Fiberspring)
Situation
Fiberspring is powered by SHELD, the utility dedicated to serving South Hadley residents and businesses. It is steadily laying the foundation to offer gig-speed fiber optic internet service to local homes and businesses.
Solution
As a SHELD-authorized contractor, Collins Electric installed, maintained and provided emergency service for fiber optic cabling from streets into homes.
Results
This project supports South Hadley Electric Light Department’s (SHELD) existing Gigabit Passive Optical Distribution Network (GPON), which includes 110 miles of fiber reaching about 7,700 premises.

Symphony Hall
Situation
Constructed between 1911–1913, Symphony Hall is known for its excellent acoustics and Greek Revival architecture. The main performance venue for the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, it’s also home to Broadway-style theatre, children’s programming, internationally recognized speakers and numerous concerts and performances. When the Symphony Hall needed audiovisual and theatrical lighting updates, we went to work.
Solution
Collins Electric provided and installed new sound, lighting and visual systems inside Springfield’s Symphony Hall.
Results
This upgrade enhanced the venue’s audiovisual experience, ensuring top-notch performance quality for audiences and performers alike.

UConn Toscano Family Ice Forum
Situation
When the University of Connecticut was building its new three-level, 97,000 square-foot Toscano Family Ice Forum, home of UConn’s men’s and women’s ice hockey teams, it needed communications and security systems that performed.
Solution
Collins Electric performed the voice, data, Wi-Fi and security installations.
Results
This state-of-the-art ice hockey arena, which opened in 2023, meets NCAA Division 1 requirements and includes a 2,500-capacity seating arena, club level seating, ice rink, concession areas, bathrooms, team rooms, lockers, and strength and conditioning areas.

Union Station Regional Intermodal Transportation Center
Situation
Following a four-decades long fight to save Union Station in Springfield, the groundbreaking ceremony was held in 2012 with renovations completed in 2017.
Solution
Collins Electric contributed to the renovation of the 1926 terminal. In addition to modernizing its exterior and mechanical/electrical infrastructure, we also installed the voice, data, security systems and monitors, ensuring state-of-the-art functionality.
Results
Union Station is a revitalized intermodal transportation center and a vibrant symbol of downtown Springfield’s renaissance. The grand first-floor concourse was updated for local and intercity buses, rail facilities and dining, retail and office spaces. A new 26-bay open-air bus terminal was also constructed.
