Aliki Perroti & Seth Frank Lyceum at Amherst College
Situation
The Aliki Perroti & Seth Frank Lyceum at Amherst College combined a restored mid-18th-century Greek Revival residence with a new addition. It required an energy efficient electrical system that would extend across both the old and new construction, blending modern construction materials with classic New England architecture.
Solution
Collins Electric completed the electrical and low voltage work for this 20,000-square-foot, energy-efficient academic building.
Results
Amherst’s first facility designed with zero embodied carbon, the Aliki Perroti & Seth Frank Lyceum features mass-timber framing, solar photovoltaics and air-source heat pumps. The “smartly sustainable” building supports Amherst College’s commitment to carbon neutrality by 2030.

Eastern States Exposition
Situation
The 175-acre Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield provides year-round opportunities and events for the development and promotion of agriculture, education, industry and family entertainment while preserving the region’s New England heritage. Its signature event, the Big E, draws more than 1 million visitors each year. With arcade games, a midway and countless food vendors, competitions, displays and activities, a reliable and efficient electrical system is a must.
Solution
Collins Electric provides comprehensive design, maintenance, installation and emergency services for the electrical infrastructure at the Eastern States Exposition. This includes setup and standby services throughout The Big E.

MassMutual
Situation
Since 1851, MassMutual has had a single purpose: to help people secure their future and protect the ones they love. They needed an electrical partner who could ensure their systems and electrical infrastructure would not only be reliable but also sustainable.

MGM Springfield
Situation
Collins Electric played a major role in the construction of MGM Springfield and its office building, both of which opened in 2018. The overall scope of work included the relocation of a historic masonry church and a mixture of new construction and two rehabilitated historic building to create a vibrant town square atmosphere in downtown Springfield.
Solution
Collins Electric completed the electrical, low voltage and medium voltage infrastructure work for large portions of the campus.
Results
The 2-million-square-foot complex features a 125,000-SF casino with 2,550 slots, 120 table games, a high-limit room, and a 23-table poker room. Additionally, it includes a 250-room, four-star hotel tower; 165,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, including seven eateries; a multiplex movie theater; 45,000 square feet of meeting and convention space and a parking garage for 3,400 vehicles, making it a premier entertainment destination.

Mountain View School
Situation
Mountain View School is a pre-K through eighth grade facility constructed at the site of the former White Brook Middle School in Easthampton. As part of the construction, an electrical system was required.
Solution
Collins Electric completed the electrical and low voltage work for the new 177,370 square-foot school.
Results
Opened in 2022, the school provides a beautiful, modern educational environment serving the community’s students.

Smith College
Situation
The electrical infrastructure at Smith College in Northampton was outdated and inefficient.
Solution
Collins Electric replaced and upgraded the entire medium voltage (5 through 25 KV) infrastructure throughout the campus.
Results
Smith College experienced enhanced reliability and efficiency for the campus’s electrical systems, including reduced energy losses and lower operating costs.

Smith College Nielson Library
Situation
Ground was broken in October 2017 for the new Neilson Library at Smith College designed by renowned architectural designer Maya Lin. Her vision incorporated the original 1909 facade and reimagined the complex as an intellectual commons. It required an extensive electrical overhaul to serve as a functional meeting place in the 21st century.
Solution
Collins Electric created preconstruction modeling and executed an extensive electrical and low voltage overhaul of the library, installing 5,000 energy-efficient fixtures with advanced dimming and lighting controls to balance LED and natural light. The building opened for campus use in March of 2021.
Results
The award-winning, aesthetically pleasing and highly functional 21st-century library honors its historical integrity. This project earned LEED Gold certification, and for the originality, difficulty and quality of the work, we earned the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) Project Excellence Award in Education.

Springfield Armory
Situation
For nearly two centuries, the U.S. Armed Forces and American industry looked to the Springfield Armory for innovative engineering and superior firearms. When they needed to modernize the facility to enhance productivity during World War II, Collins Electric was there to answer the call.
Solution
In 1939, Collins Electric made history by installing the first fluorescent lighting system at the Springfield Armory. We installed more than 800 fluorescent fixtures in the new state-of-the-art Building 104, doubling M1 Garand rifle production within a year. This innovation played a crucial role in modernizing the facility for World War II, significantly enhancing productivity.
Results
The improved lighting conditions transformed night shifts, boosting efficiency and morale. This project set a precedent for industrial lighting, influencing many production facilities during and after the war. Collins Electric’s work at the Armory remains a landmark achievement in electrical engineering.

Valley Springs Behavioral Health Hospital
Situation
The Valley Springs Behavioral Health Hospital in Holyoke offers compassionate, high-quality inpatient and outpatient mental health and co-occurring treatment for teens, adults and seniors. Collins Electric was engaged for electrical work during construction of the facility, which is a joint venture between Baystate Health and Lifepoint Behavioral Health.
Solution
Collins Electric completed electrical, low voltage and high voltage work for the new 123,230-square-foot hospital. The project included a four-story, 120-bed hospital building, a one-story gymnasium/activity therapy building and a one-story, 30-bed Department of Mental Health (DMH) unit.
Results
Opened in 2023, the hospital meets an urgent need in our region for quality care for mental illness and addiction.

Western New England University Dining Commons
Situation
When building a dining facility to accommodate more than 3,400 students plus faculty, staff and visitors, Western New England University (WNEU) in Springfield needed an electrical company that could meet its demands for efficiency and reliability.
Solution
Collins Electric completed a full design-build of the electrical and high voltage systems at the WNEU Dining Commons, which opened in 2018. We provided full building information modeling our design/build work.
Results
Our successful design-build ensured a modern and efficient infrastructure for the University Commons. The four-floor facility includes specialty and grab ‘n’ go dining and snack options, a full-service dining Urban Market area spanning two floors, and a floor with spaces for meetings and catered events, including an outdoor terrace. Select seating areas are wired with electric outlets and USB ports to recharge phones, tablets and laptops.

William Pynchon Memorial Building and the Amazing World of Dr. Seuss
Situation
Collins Electric wired the original William Pynchon Memorial Building in Springfield when it was built in 1927 to house the Connecticut Valley Historical Society’s Collections. The wiring needed to be updated as part of the conversion of the building into The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum in 2017.
Solution
Our team performed the electrical work necessary to convert the building into the newest museum on the Quadrangle in Springfield, which is devoted to Springfield native Theodor Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss.
Results
The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum features interactive, family-friendly, bilingual exhibits and activities celebrating Dr. Seuss, exploring his roots and encouraging visitors from across the country and around the world to explore their own creativity.
